Childbirth Is Better With Hypnotherapy

December 18, 2011 – 10:41 am

This current study is being run by Professor Soo Downe and it will involve over 800 first time mothers chosen from hospitals in Blackburn and Burnley. This trial will last 18 months and it will look at hypnotherapy and Self Hypnosis in Birthing. If the results are favourable then more research in this area and others will be carried out by doing further trials across the UK.

Hypnosis or hypnotherapy for childbirth is also called hypnobirthing was first started in Australia and it has been used here in the UK for the past 15 years. It gives Pregnant women the opportunity to manage their labour themselves at home or in hospital in a more relaxed and calm way. This is both as helpful for the mother as it is for the newborn baby. Learning self hypnosis including relaxation and breathing techniques before giving birth can be very valuable for pain control and stress reduction both during pregnancy and birth. Most people will need about 4 or 5 teaching hypnotherapy sessions normally undertaken during the second half from about 30 – 35 weeks pregnancy whilst practicing themselves with a cd for use at home.

This kind of relaxation practice can be invaluable for women who are working stressful jobs or have busy homelives and other demands throughout their pregnancy.

It is also helpful for mothers who have had a previous bad birthing experience and those who are anxious about giving birth. Hypnobirthing is suitable both for first time mothers or those who already have children. It can help with confidence and self esteem as well as pain control and relaxation and it can be learnt easily as contrary to popular belief everyone can be hypnotised just to varying degrees. it doesn’t promise a pain free labor but it can help to control pain.

Mothers who have been through the hypnobirthing experience report feeling more in control of their birth they are not out of it at all but more focused and confident. they also report less pain, tension and a quicker easier labor. Midwives are now able to train as teachers of hypnobirthing so it is being used more widely than ever as is becoming increasingly popular. If the NHS study proves successful it will be more available to expectant mothers in the UK.There are many basic hypnosis techniques that can be used throughout pregnancy and childbirth for the purposes of relaxation, sleep, physical comfort, preparation for childbirth and preparation for parenthood.

Fighting Cellulite

December 13, 2011 – 6:21 am

Adiposis endematosa, also known as cellulite, manifests itself as a dimpled, orange peel, or cottage cheese look. It can begin as early as the teenage years. Even so, it can also occur following pregnancy, weight gain, menopause, or just about any time.

Cellulite is typically selective regarding where it will settle. For example, it usually appears on the buttocks, thighs (front and back), stomach, and upper arms. It’s important to mention that not all sufferers get cellulite in the same measure. Some individuals have an extremely small amount that is only detectable when the skin is pinched, and others have noticeable dimpling, even when they are stationary.

What causes cellulite? Let’s look at some factors outside and within a person’s control.

Outside

  • Gender. Males can develop the appearance of cellulite, particularly on the abdomen; nonetheless, females are considerably more susceptible. In fact, some studies have suggested that women represent about 90% of all cellulite cases.
  • Family History. It’s believed that genetics may play a cellulite role in certain people. Because of this, individuals who have a family history could be at greater risk.
  • Hormones. Fluctuating hormone levels are thought to be responsible for this type of fat formation in some females. This may explain why the condition tends to develop around puberty, pregnancy, and menopause.

Within.

  • Diet. A diet high in saturated fat, salty foods, processed meats, or simple carbohydrates (like sugary desserts and sodas) is believed to contribute to cellulite in some people. Healthy choices like fresh fruits, leafy vegetables, lean proteins, and fiber may counteract some of the negative effects. Concurrently, drinking sensible amounts of purified water throughout the day will help flush toxins from the body.
  • Exercise. Inactivity is unhealthy for many reasons, and skin tone is on the list. Fortunately, a combination of aerobic exercise and resistance training may reduce cellulite. NOTE: Do not begin an exercise program without the consent of your doctor.
  • Smoking/alcohol. Smoking seems to have a vast array of negative consequences, and cellulite contribution is likely one of them. Consequently, if you smoke, make an effort to quit. In addition, watch your alcohol intake. Too much alcohol can elevate fat levels in the blood.

Well, what can be done to minimize cellulite besides the above suggestions?

Regular massage in the affected areas stimulates circulation, so this is a great therapy to try: dry brushing and certain creams may heighten the benefits. At the same time, a qualified plastic surgeon can help you understand the reasons for your cellulite and work to identify a treatment plan and/or procedure right for you.

The Various Anti-Aging Methods

December 7, 2011 – 12:46 pm

Aging is an inevitable outcome of life. In time, everyone will grow old. However, that doesn’t mean that people can’t take steps to slow down the process. There are a number of ways to keep the body fit and healthy for years to come. There are also different methods to reduce the signs of aging. These anti-aging methods are simple to follow.

Exercise is the key to a strong and healthy body. When using this anti-aging method, people can add years to their life. Exercise boosts the metabolism, which helps people control weight gain. Always incorporate strength training into workouts because it helps prevent the body from developing arthritis. Not only does exercise slow down the aging process, it also relieves some of the problems that are associated with getting older. For instance, exercise has been known to lessen back and joint pain.

Eating a healthy diet is the second anti-aging method. Fresh fruits and vegetables can rid the body of toxic compounds. Make smart choices with eating habits because food affects skin care. When maintaining a healthy diet, also make sure to drink plenty of water. Drinking water will flush harmful toxins from the body. Not only that, but it also hydrates the skin and unclogs pores.

Stress can make someone age faster. For this reason, reducing stress is a good anti-aging approach. When people spend a lot of time worrying, they often develop lines and wrinkles on their face. Stress has even been known to affect the body’s immune system. People should find an activity that reduces their stress levels. For example, yoga and meditation are often seen as activities that can calm the body and mind.

Practicing good skin care is another anti-aging method to follow. It is essential for people to moisturize their skin on a daily basis. Moisturizers can prevent lines and wrinkles. Make sure to avoid oil-based products because they can clog pores. Always use sunscreen when going outside. Sunscreen protects the skin from harmful UV rays. It’s even important to wear sunscreen on rainy or cloudy days. The UV rays from the sun can damage the skin, which causes wrinkles to form.

Make sure to get plenty of sleep each week. There have been a number of studies that have shown that sleep is crucial to the aging process. In order to slow aging down, people should get eight hours of sleep each night. This anti-aging method helps ensure that a person’s body is well rested. When they get a full night of sleep, people will have more energy the following day.

A final anti-aging method is to stop smoking. When people smoke, it can take years from their life. Smoking causes the skin to become wrinkled and blotchy. In addition to that, it also turns the teeth yellow. Smoking weakens the lungs, which doesn’t help with the aging process. It depletes the body of stored vitamins. For instance, it often lessens the amount of vitamin C. Vitamins have been proven to reduce the appearance of wrinkles.
