Health And Wellness For Women – 3 Simple Health Tips

January 3, 2012 – 2:07 pm

There are three basic areas when it comes to women’s health and wellness. Women wish to enjoy good health, reduce their weight and have a shapely body. We will address all three issues briefly.

  1. Health – Freedom from Chronic inflammation

Studies are beginning to suggest that chronic inflammation could be the root cause of a surprising number of health conditions like heart disease, arthritis, irritable bowel syndrome, eczema, asthma and a number of other diseases. Nutritional imbalance in the body caused by chronic inflammation seems to be the main mechanism that gives rise to a number of these health complications. Researchers are also of the opinion that treating chronic inflammation could restore nutritional balance, which in turn would cure most of the symptoms.

The nutritional imbalance in the body centers around the essential fatty acids omega 3 and omega 6. The term ‘essential’ is used to indicate that these acids are vital to the body, even though the body does not synthesize them on its own. Our bodies need to get these essential fatty acids through our diet. For optimum health, the omega 3 and omega 6 fatty acids need to maintain a ratio of 1:1. Mankind has thrived on a healthy diet in the past where fish, wild game, flax and walnuts were sources of omega 3, and chicken, olives, pumpkin seed and hemp seed were sources of omega 6 acids.

Industrialization, packaging and refining of foods in recent times have thrown the fatty acid ratio out of balance to 1:10 in most people and sometimes as high as 1:20 in certain individuals. The high concentration of omega 6 acids is believed to excite the cells in the body, causing them to produce inflammation. Studies have also shown that restoring balance to the body causes a noticeable decrease in the symptoms and a possible cure.

Fish oil seems to be the main ingredient that helps in restoring this balance. Including fish oil containing omega 3 acids to restore balance to the body is the best strategy to fight chronic inflammation and most of the associated diseases that come along with it.

  2. Weight Loss through diet supplements

Weight Loss is another important area in the quest for health and wellness for women. Fortunately, there are food supplements like Meratol which can help women lose weight effectively. Meratol uses a four step approach towards weight loss. First, it reduces a person’s appetite. Secondly, it reduces the absorption of fat and carbohydrates from food. Thirdly, it increases the metabolic rate of the body. Finally, it helps the body to burn more calories before, during and after workouts. Using this four step approach, Meratol helps women to reduce weight effectively.

  3. A Shapely Body

Staying healthy and losing weight alone may not give women a shapely body. The most prominent feminine feature is the bust line. Having shapely breasts is almost every woman’s dream but many women have small, sagging or loose breasts. Women can have larger, firmer and more uplifted breasts by using Triactol Bust Serum. With over 10 extensive clinical trials, this bust serum is shown to be safe, natural, and without any known side effects. It is known to effectively increase size of breast in most women.

Symphysis Pubis Dysfunction

December 29, 2011 – 2:33 pm

Symphysis pubis dysfunction, often shortened to just SPD, is a problem that is often associated with pregnancy and childbirth. In SPD the individual experiences excessive movement of the pubic symphysis which the midline cartilage joint that is beneath the pubic bones (just anterior to the bladder and just above the genitals). This movement can be anterior or lateral and often it will cause pain and discomfort. The cause for this is most commonly misalignment of the pelvis and it is associated with pelvic girdle pain – often the two names are used synonymously. It is believed to affect around one quarter of pregnant women to some degree and 7% of these will continue to suffer pain following their childbirth. Interestingly this condition was identified by Hippocrates meaning it has dated back for thousands of years. However it seems that incidences of SPD have increased over recent years and it is unknown what the cause of this is. One argument is that it is because the average age of maternity is increasing, while others suggest it is just a result of superior diagnosis.

Symptoms

The main symptom is normally discomfort in the pelvic region of course near where the pubic symphysis is located. This is normally felt on the joint or near the front of the pelvis though others say that it affects the lower back. Sometimes there may be an accompanied clicking noise which occurs when they walk or change position. They might also experience pain in the groin, abdomen, lower legs and more. The severity of the pain ranges greatly, and in some cases it has been correlated with depression as a result of the severity of the discomfort. Usually with the pain comes a reduced mobility which can affect a patient’s ability to climb stairs and causing a waddling gait.

Early diagnosis is important in order to minimize the likelihood of a long-term condition and worsening. Unfortunately despite the prevalence of the condition not all healthcare workers are familiar with it and it can sometimes go undiagnosed. Usually the diagnosis will occur using the symptoms alone. Usually the mothers will report their pain to a midwife, GP or other professional. It will be necessary to rule out other causes such as lumbar spine problems such as a prolapsed disc or some form of infection.

Treatments

There is no recommendation for a particular treatment. Most treatments will involve giving the patient a pair of elbow crutches which they can use in order to avoid placing weight on their problem area. At the same time they might benefit from pelvic support devices and pain killers. In most cases however the pain will stop immediately after childbirth. In other cases the patient may wish to use an osteopath or chiropractor in order to address the problem through physical manipulation aimed at realigning the area.

In some cases the patients will be given exercises to use at home by their physiotherapist or GP and these involve exercises for the pelvic floor and for core stability.

What Are Ovarian Cysts and Why Do They Bother You?

December 24, 2011 – 7:26 am

What are ovarian cysts? That’s the question that many young women ask once they realize they’ve got one. The answer is both simple and complex. It’s simple because it is a cyst on the ovary (or ovaries) that usually forms as the result of a failure in the menstruation process.

It is also a complex answer because there are several different types of ovarian cysts and there are also several factors that determine how serious or inconsequential the cyst may be.

But how did I develop a cyst in the first place?

Ovarian cysts usually form because of a malfunction during a woman’s normal monthly period.

By far, the most common type of cyst is called a Functional cyst precisely because it is the result of the menstrual function not performing exactly as it should.
Normally, during a menstrual cycle, a ‘follicle’ or sac is formed which contains the egg. During the cycle, the sac matures and will rupture and the egg is released.
Sometimes, however, the sac does not rupture, but instead begins to fill with fluid. It becomes harder and usually will grow as it fills with fluid. This is classified as a Follicular cyst, and is the most common type of functional cyst.

Another possibility is that the egg actually does get released, but the follicle, instead of dissolving like it should, will seal up and begin to fill with fluid. The size of it is important since if it grows larger than 2 cm it is considered a cyst on the ovaries.

Both of these possibilities are Functional cysts.

Of course there are other types of ovarian cysts, too.

Dermoid ovarian cysts are a teratoma, which means that it is a tumor that contains cells that you wouldn’t ordinarily expect to be found where they are. In the case of dermoid cysts, sometimes they contain things like hair, teeth, cartilage and other things that aren’t supposed to be located on the ovary. In most cases they are not malignant tumors, but are upsetting because of the size and material within the cyst.

Yet another type of ovarian cyst is called a Chocolate cyst. It’s called a chocolate cyst because of the blood build up within the cyst that turns a brownish color. This kind of cyst is usually caused by endometriosis and begins because a small amount of endometrial tissue begins to bleed. some of the endometrial tissue falls off the uterine wall and winds up in the ovaries and begins to grow.

Like many other medical conditions the type of treatment depends on many factors, such as the size, the pain being caused to the patient, whether or not the cyst runs the risk of rupturing and bleeding, and whether the cyst is cancerous or not.
